David Harness Sr. — Senior Pastor

David Harness, Sr.

David Harness Sr., has been the pastor of Victory Baptist Church of Sherwood Park, Alberta since its inception in May 1980, when Pastor Harness moved his young family to Sherwood Park and began knocking on doors and sharing the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. In time the church grew, purchased property, and built the building they enjoy today.

Church planting is one of Pastor Harness's passions. Victory Baptist Church has helped start several other churches and he has mentored many young preachers. He is a board member of Baptist Church Planting Ministry. Pastor Harness is also passionate about preaching and teaching the Word of God and is gifted at taking a passage of Scripture, explaining what it means, and then showing how to apply each truth to daily life.

Pastor Harness was raised in a Christian family, but at eight years of age he realized he must personally trust Christ as his Saviour.

God has blessed his wife, Cathy, and him with 12 children and 21 grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys fixing and building things in addition to being outdoors.

David Harness Jr. — Assistant Pastor

David Harness, Jr.

David grew up as the oldest son of Pastor David Harness Sr., and has always been very involved in Victory Baptist Church. He was saved as a young boy after being taught in Sunday School about the crucifixion of Jesus: realizing that the reason Jesus died on the cross was to pay the penalty for his sins, David trusted Jesus to save him.

When he was 17 years old, God used a Bible message from Ezekiel 22:30 and Isaiah 6:8 to show David that He wanted him to be a preacher. That night David surrendered his life to serve God. Pastor David enjoys leading the congregational singing and teaching and preaching the truth of God’s Word.

In 2007, Pastor David married Trista, the girl he secretly admired for several years before God made it clear to him and his parents that she was God’s will for his life. They have four children — David III (8), Andrew (5), Daniel (3), and Emma (1). Pastor David and Trista desire that each of their children grow to love and serve God.

Pastor David enjoys cooking (and eating) good food, roasting (and drinking) coffee, raising farm animals, and doing just about any activity outdoors — gardening, hunting, fishing, and snowboarding, just to name a few.

Trevor Stephens — Deacon: Hospitality Ministries; Bible Teacher and Preacher

Trevor Stephens

Trevor Stephens has served as a deacon of Victory Baptist Church for six years and enjoys serving the Lord and others. He enjoys preaching the Word and has a desire for Christians to understand and embrace the power of God in their lives. A verse that is dear to Trevor is Ephesians 6:10 which says “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”

Trevor was saved in Cornwall, Ontario after being invited to evangelistic meetings at the age of 14. He was baptized shortly afterward and eventually went to Bible College in Saskatchewan for two years. After moving to Sherwood Park, Trevor and his wife Anne began attending Victory Baptist Church in 2006 with their daughter Leah. Trevor has sensed the call of God on his life to go into full-time ministry in the future and looks forward to what God has in store for him and his family. Trevor and Anne now have five children — Leah (10), Jack (8), Luke (6), Levi (3), and Noah (1) that they seek to bring up ”in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4b). It is the goal of the Stephens family to bring glory to God by serving at Victory Baptist Church.

Growing up on a farm in Ontario and living outside the city in Alberta, Trevor enjoys being outside and especially if it involves raising animals. Trevor also oversees a construction company along with several other men in the church.

George Utz — Deacon

George Utz

George Utz was saved when he was just four years old. He saw his need to be baptized in obedience to Christ at age twelve; and at the age of fifteen, after hearing a message on "Giving God A Bag Of Bones", started to seek for more opportunities to serve the Lord. As a result, he has found many opportunities in which to spend his life in the Lord's service. He enjoys serving others, and working with his hands. George has served as a deacon of Victory Baptist Church for over ten years.

After Debra, his wife of twenty-four years, went to be with the Lord, George was remarried to Sally (Rohof), a long time member of Victory Baptist Church. Together they enjoy the children and grandchildren that God has given them. George has found great strength, comfort, and encouragement in the Lord Jesus Christ. George desires see others find the truth of God's Word for daily living. His life verse is John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

George's hobbies include building things, driving large trucks (as well as small ones), and traveling.
